This project explored hidden meanings beneath physical and emotional surfaces by projecting typographic messages onto textured urban spaces around the city ring road. Inspired by ideas of internal struggle and unseen emotions, the work aimed to show that what’s visible is rarely the full story.

My chosen message, “Even in darkness, the light breaks through”, led me to photograph broken, weathered surfaces, cracked walls, shattered windows, distressed floors, which visually echoed the theme of fracture and resilience. I designed the projection so the type appeared to emerge slowly from the textures, blending message with environment rather than imposing it.
Test projections helped me fine-tune alignment, contrast, and legibility on uneven surfaces. The process highlighted the importance of site-specific design, how space and surface can become part of the message itself. This project deepened my understanding of environmental typography, animation, and projection as a medium. It also taught me the value of patience, experimentation, and letting the physical context shape the emotional impact of the work.
